Let's do: Revolutionary Times 1st Empire 100 Days

This is an easy one.
Carabiniers are certainly the best.

I know that the heavy cavalry was the ruler on the battlefield and took all the honors (well deserved) but I would say that I highly respect the light cavalry for their scouting jobs deep behind in enemy country.
Good scouting was utterly important for a commander to position his main army well so my credit would go to the light cavalry and there to the Chasseurs a Cheval.
Perfect choice would be Dragoons as they could do both though.

French never had real good horseflesh, so they never had a real good cavalry at any time. That´s the reason why they needed the POLISH LANCERS! Perfect riders on tough little polish horses! Or Mamelucks on arabian runners!
Hard to say so for a german, but good ole england ever had the best horses in the world! Shire-horses in the middle-age and later the english thoroughbred, the fastest horse in the world.

Concerning the light cav, I agree with Thomas (and Tom). The role of the light horsemen is often overseen due to the dominant role that their heavy brothers played on the battlefield. But you should never forget how excellent the polish lancers performed on the peninsula...
However, my favourites have always bee the cuirassiers. Clad in iron with horse hair waving from their helmets, they must have been a really impressive sight when charging... They were able to decide battles and even whole campaigns not onlywith their quality but also with their sheer mass (there were 12 regiments of them). Everybody who knows me also knows that I do not like Wellington because of his (in my opinion) quite poor performance during the 100 days, but I really admire the steadfastness of his infantry at Waterloo, who held the line while wave after wave of these terrifying titans charged their squares..

So you are ignoring his handling of the Spanish campaign, what other Allied general could have ejected the French from the peninsular with such scant forces................Blucher .....i don't think so!

Let's just say his 100 Days performance could have been better, and the after written history could have gone a bit better as well. But the Penninsula he was very good at, that is for sure.

Yes Tom English horses were powerhouses. Had they had more at Waterloo it could have been over sooner.
